ABOUT ME

Shelli Johnson
Hello! I’m thrilled to share a bit about my journey with you.
As a passionate storyteller, I am dedicated to exploring themes of healing and self-discovery through my fiction. After suffering a traumatic brain injury from a head-on collision with a drunk driver, I gained firsthand insight into the transformative power of resilience. This life-altering experience inspires me to craft narratives that resonate deeply with readers, focusing on characters who reclaim their identities and find balance in their lives. Through my writing, I invite readers to embark on their own journeys of growth and empowerment.
I’m proud to say that my work has gained some international recognition along the way. You might have seen me in PEOPLE magazine, on PEOPLE TV, or even on FOX TV and NPR. My writing has also appeared in places like The Plain Dealer and Thrive Global. I’m also excited to share that some of my books have became #1 Amazon Bestsellers!
With a background that includes a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a master’s in Fiction Writing, I’ve honed my skills in storytelling. My experience as a journalist, where I earned prestigious awards, taught me the importance of connection and empathy—skills I now bring into my fiction writing.
I’ve been privileged to participate in artist residencies and have received recognition for my debut novel, Small as a Mustard Seed, which was awarded multiple honors, including a Grand Prize from the Writer's Digest International Book Awards. The novel was also featured in Writer's Digest magazine, NPR, the Today Show, among other media. Most recently, I completed a gripping novel that delves into the complexities of WWII Germany, offering a haunting and intimate perspective through the eyes of those who lived it.

READER REVIEWS
An intense and heartbreaking story of the fallout of war.
Publisher's Weekly
A story that will run you through an emotional marathon at a sprinter’s pace . . . the most powerful novel I’ve read in many years . . . one of the most significant reading experiences I’ve ever had.
Tom Clementson, Kindle Book Reviews
Small as a Mustard Seed is a momentum building, emotional rollercoaster read. Shelli Johnson’s impressive ability to make her main character, Ann Marie, so credible led to my believing that I was reading an autobiography.
Bob Doerr, Military Writer's Society Of America
A superbly crafted and reader engaging novel . . . a terrific read from first page to last.
Midwest Book Review
The language and tone rich with emotional weight . . . intensifies the heartbreaking events that occur.
Writer's Digest
This book tells a great story of friendship and bravery. It also teaches kids that it is important to express how we are feeling and not keep it bottled up . . . children will feel inspired by Bigsby and his ability to make new friends and will take that lesson into their lives.
Little Helpers in Life
This book is great for my three-year-old because, as the fourth child, he is often overwhelmed with all the busyness of our family and has been heard to say, "Leave me alone." But, just like the snowman, he doesn't mean it. This book gave me ways to talk to him about his confusing emotions. He's already asked me to read it again!

This book is beautifully illustrated and it speaks at a level children will understand about friendship as well as finding your voice to share with others about how you feel. It is humorous (I love the little dog with the sticks! So funny!) but it also touches you on a more deeper level. A teacher's addition to the classroom for sure!

Loved this book! Will definitely read it to all my young nieces and nephews. Will probably purchase a few more copies to give as gifts. Shelli Johnson has a gift that cannot be ignored!
